About BDS
BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is the only approved and recognized professional dental course in India. It is an undergraduate degree of 5 years which trains students to enter the noble profession of dental science and surgery. The programme covers various aspects of dental problems, denture and surgery in the same fields. BDS or Bachelor of Dental Surgery is the most popular medical course after MBBS.
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the national level exam to apply for BDS admissions. A total of 26773 seats are available as per the Dental Council of India records across 315 colleges inclusive of Govt, private colleges as well as central and deemed universities.
In this course, the students are taught about the denture, dental problems and surgery. It is also a good job-oriented degree programmes and various opportunities are available in the hospital, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing industries.
The course is 4 years in duration followed by one year of paid rotating internship. In India, BDS is regulated by the Dental Council of India where all dentists have to register to be able to practice after the completion of their study.
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for the BDS course have been mentioned below.
Minimum Qualification Required for BDS: 10+2 (Chemistry, Biology & Physics)
Minimum Marks Required for BDS (Aggregate): 50% (for General category students) and 40% (for reserved category students)
Minimum Age Required for BDS: 17 years
Upper Age Limit for BDS: 25 Years
BDS Admission Process
The admission to BDS course is done on the basis of national or institute-level entrance exams.
The biggest and nationally accepted entrance exam for BDS is NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test).
