Jannayak Karpoori Thakur Medical College and Hospital (JKTMCH), situated in Madhepura, Bihar, began academic operations in 2020. Established by the Government of Bihar, the college honors the legacy of Karpoori Thakur, the former Chief Minister known for championing social justice. The institution was created to address the growing need for quality medical education and healthcare access in the underserved Kosi region.
JKTMCH holds affiliation with the Bihar University of Health Sciences and recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC). Although still developing its infrastructure, the college is steadily progressing with the construction of academic blocks, lecture halls, laboratories, and a central library. The MBBS course follows the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) framework, combining theoretical instruction with practical training. About the Hospital
The attached hospital at JKTMCH serves as the cornerstone of medical care in the Madhepura district. As a newly built facility, the hospital continues to expand its infrastructure and services. It currently operates essential departments such as General Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedics, and Emergency Medicine.
With developing diagnostic labs, a functioning blood bank, and foundational ICU services, the hospital supports clinical learning and patient care. Seats in College
JKTMCH offers 100 MBBS seats every academic year. Admission is based on NEET-UG performance and adheres to the reservation policies of the Government of India and the Bihar State Government. Of the total seats, 15% are reserved under the All India Quota, and 85% fall under the State Quota for eligible Bihar domicile candidates.
