Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute (MGMCRI) is located in Pillayarkuppam, near Bahour in Pondicherry. It launched its MBBS program in 2002 and operates under Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth. The Mahatma Gandhi Medical College Pondicherry university is a NAAC A++-accredited deemed institution. The campus spreads over 27 acres and offers smart classrooms, simulation labs, digital libraries, departmental museums, and research units.

MGMCRI uses the Competency-Based Medical Education curriculum. This model emphasizes early clinical exposure, case-based learning, and regular formative assessments. About the Hospital

The teaching hospital associated with MGMCRI has around 1,000 beds and functions as a tertiary care facility. Students train across departments such as General Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Pathology, Emergency Medicine, and the Blood Bank.

Each day, students attend outpatient consultations, ward rounds, emergency postings, and surgical procedures. Supervision by expert faculty ensures that clinical exposure is safe, structured, and meaningful. The hospital caters to urban, rural, and tribal populations, which ensures that students experience a wide range of clinical conditions and treatment protocols.

Seats in College

MGMCRI admits 250 students into its MBBS program each year. This seat intake has remained consistent since 2014. All admissions follow NEET UG rankings. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) manages centralized allotment, as per the norms for deemed universities.
