About the College
Government Medical College, Srikakulam, originally launched as RIMS Srikakulam in 2008, operates under Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s vision for expanding quality medical education in Andhra Pradesh. The college affiliates with Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, and complies fully with National Medical Commission guidelines. Located in Shanti Nagar, Balaga, the 36-acre campus includes digital classrooms, simulation facilities, skill labs, an anatomy museum, a well-equipped digital library, and separate hostels for men and women.
The institution delivers medical education through the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) model. Students begin clinical exposure from the first year. Faculty use real-world case discussions, clinical rotations, and formative assessments to help students master clinical reasoning and patient-centered care. About the Hospital
The college links with the upgraded Government General Hospital in Srikakulam, which now includes over 715 functional beds. This multispecialty hospital provides services across departments such as General Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Radiology, and Emergency Medicine. It also includes super-specialties like Cardiology, Neurology, and Nephrology.
Students actively engage in daily OPDs, ward rounds, diagnostics, and minor OT procedures. Clinical instruction emphasizes hands-on learning under direct supervision from experienced doctors. Patients visit from rural, urban, and tribal regions, ensuring broad clinical exposure and learning opportunities for medical trainees.
