About the College

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal began in 1972 as the Regional Medical College. It later received its current name. The institute sits on a 192-acre urban campus in Lamphelpat, Imphal. It operates under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. RIMS is affiliated with Manipur University and holds recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC). The college combines academic learning with large-scale healthcare delivery. It plays a key role in serving the Northeast region by offering quality education and modern medical facilities.

About the Hospital

RIMS runs a 1,074-bed teaching hospital. It treats over 240,000 outpatients and 31,000 inpatients each year. This patient volume gives students rich and varied clinical exposure. The hospital includes WHO-subscribed MEDLINE access, a Tele-medicine Centre, and a Regional Medical Library. It also uses a modern Hospital Information Management System. These facilities help students gain practical skills while staying updated with medical technology.

Principal’s Message

A direct principal’s statement is not available. However, the motto “In the Service of Humanity” shows the college’s vision. RIMS works to produce healthcare professionals who are skilled, ethical, and socially responsible.

Seats in College

RIMS admits 125 MBBS students every year. The seat allocation is as follows: 19 for the All India Quota, 30 for Manipur, 13 each for Tripura and Meghalaya, 10 for Nagaland, 7 each for Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, 5 for Sikkim, 11 for EWS, and 10 for the NE (Open) category. Postgraduate courses offer 166 seats in MD, MS, and Diploma programs. Super-specialty seats include M.Ch. in Urology (2), M.Ch. in Plastic Surgery (1), and DM in Nephrology (2). Other programs include BDS, M.Phil, B.Sc. Nursing, M.Sc. Nursing, BASLP, MLT, and MRIT.

Mission and Vision

The mission of RIMS is to prepare competent and compassionate doctors. They should serve both community and tertiary healthcare needs. The vision focuses on improving healthcare standards across the Northeast through education, research, and outreach programs.

Fees Structure

For MBBS and BDS admissions, the one-time fee is about ₹6,472. This covers admission, tuition, library, hostel, exam, blazer, and healthcare costs. Postgraduate fees are around ₹1,610 per year. Additional charges for exams, mess, and thesis work total about ₹6,400. Some estimates place the full MBBS tuition at ₹32,625 for the entire course. Hostel and mess fees are extra.

Infrastructure & Campus Life

The RIMS campus has a Tele-medicine Centre, digital library, modern lecture halls, auditorium, indoor stadium, ATMs, and smart classrooms. In 2025, RIMS became the first Centre of Excellence for Rare Diseases in Northeast India. This achievement adds to its academic and clinical reputation.
