About the College

Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital, earlier known as Government Medical College & Hospital Balangir, opened in 2018 to strengthen medical education in western Odisha. It is affiliated with the Odisha University of Health Sciences and recognized by the National Medical Commission. The MBBS program admits 100 students each year. The campus spreads across 27 acres at the foothills of the Gandhamardhan Hills. Students benefit from modern classrooms, libraries, hostels, and recreation spaces. The college blends academic learning with clinical exposure, preparing students for real-world healthcare. Its location gives rural and tribal students easier access to medical education while improving regional health services.

About the Hospital

The attached hospital covers 12 acres and has about 300 beds. Departments include Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Orthopedics. Facilities feature ICUs, ICCU, SNCU, emergency care, and diagnostic services. Specialized outpatient clinics handle a wide range of cases. A 650-bed teaching hospital is under construction, which will expand training and patient care capacity. The hospital serves as the main referral center for Balangir and nearby districts. Students gain valuable hands-on experience under expert faculty, which builds strong professional skills.
