Initially named Vardhman Institute of Medical Sciences, the college later adopted its current name to honor Bhagwan Mahavir. BMIMS operates under the Bihar University of Health Sciences and maintains full recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC).

About the Hospital
BMIMS Hospital serves as the primary clinical training site for the students. With a current bed strength of over 500 and continuous infrastructure upgrades, it plays a crucial role in healthcare delivery across Nalanda and nearby regions. The hospital houses several departments—General Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, ENT, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, and others.
It supports students’ hands-on learning with modern medical infrastructure including ICUs, emergency units, CT and MRI facilities, a central diagnostic lab, and a functioning blood bank.
