About the College
Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, Barpeta, began operations in 2012 to improve healthcare in western Assam. The Government of Assam established the college under the Directorate of Medical Education. It affiliates with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences and holds approval from the National Medical Commission. FAAMCH offers both MBBS and postgraduate programs.
The campus spans around 41 acres. It features digital lecture halls, modern labs, demonstration rooms, and dedicated hostels for boys and girls. Additionally, a central library, skill labs, and research units support student development. The college follows the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum. Students benefit from early clinical exposure, integrated teaching, and practical assessments. Moreover, academic life includes seminars, skill lab sessions, and health outreach programs.
About the Hospital
FAAMCH’s attached hospital functions as a multi-specialty facility with over 550 beds. It provides services in general medicine, pediatrics, surgery, dermatology, psychiatry, orthopedics, ENT, gynecology, radiology, and anesthesia.
The hospital offers ICU, NICU, modular OTs, emergency care, and advanced diagnostic services. Patients arrive daily from Barpeta, Nalbari, Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Baksa. Therefore, students gain extensive hands-on clinical experience. Their training includes rotations in OPDs, wards, and specialty units. They also participate in health camps, public awareness drives, and national health programs such as immunization and maternal care.

Seats in College
FAAMCH offers 125 MBBS seats each year. Admissions take place through NEET UG. Of these, 15% go to the All India Quota while 85% belong to the Assam state quota. Students admitted through the state quota sign a government bond. This bond ensures service in public healthcare settings after graduation. In addition to MBBS, the college provides around 52 PG seats in various MD and MS specialties. These programs meet the growing need for advanced healthcare providers in the region.
