About the College

Government Medical College, Bettiah—also known as GMCH Bettiah—was established in 2008 by the Government of Bihar to fulfill the growing healthcare and medical education needs of West Champaran and neighboring districts. Although the physical infrastructure took shape in 2008, the college began its first MBBS batch in 2013 after securing recognition from the National Medical Commission and affiliation with Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna. The affiliation has now transitioned to Bihar University of Health Sciences.

The institution follows the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum, emphasizing integrated learning, clinical exposure, and community involvement. Students benefit from digital classrooms, demonstration rooms, dissection halls, and a central library that supports academic excellence. Simulation-based education and public health projects also enhance student understanding and skill development. The campus continues to evolve, positioning the college as a major contributor to Bihar’s government medical education system.

About the Hospital

The attached teaching hospital of GMCH Bettiah has grown into a vital healthcare provider in the West Champaran region. With over 500 beds, the hospital offers services in general medicine, surgery, orthopedics, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, psychiatry, and other specialties.

Diagnostic laboratories, intensive care units, radiology, blood bank facilities, and emergency services support both the academic and healthcare missions of the hospital. The high patient inflow ensures rich clinical exposure, allowing students to build confidence and competence through real-time patient care beginning in the first year.
