About the College

Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Chandigarh, began its academic journey in 1991. The Government of India established it to meet the growing demand for undergraduate medical education in the Union Territory. Affiliated with Panjab University, GMCH complements existing postgraduate institutions by offering a complete undergraduate and postgraduate medical training ecosystem.

The campus, located in Sector 32, spans 36 acres and features modern infrastructure. It includes spacious lecture halls, advanced laboratories, and a well-stocked central library. GMCH follows a curriculum that integrates clinical practice, research, and academic learning. Alongside the MBBS course, the college offers MD and MS programs across various specialties. Students receive hands-on experience from the beginning, supported by skilled faculty and cutting-edge facilities.

About the Hospital

The hospital at GMCH serves as a key tertiary care center for Chandigarh and neighboring states. With around 785 beds, it handles a high patient load and provides services in medicine, surgery, pediatrics, orthopedics, gynecology, cardiology, and neurology.

Super-specialty units, modern ICUs, trauma centers, and advanced diagnostic tools like MRI and CT enhance the hospital’s clinical scope. Students benefit from early exposure to real-world healthcare through ward duties, OPDs, and emergency rotations. Faculty guide them in diagnosis, treatment, and patient communication, ensuring they grow into competent, confident doctors.
