Government Medical College, Surat, began in 1964 with the mission to train medical professionals and expand advanced healthcare across South Gujarat. Affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, the college holds recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Spread across a 130-acre campus, the college houses lecture halls, departmental labs, libraries, student hostels, and residential quarters for staff. About the Hospital
New Civil Hospital, Surat, functions as the teaching hospital for GMC Surat. Initially started with 300 beds, the hospital now operates with 1,150 teaching beds and an additional 110 beds in ICUs and private rooms. It also includes a separate 1,000-bedded COVID-19 facility developed during the pandemic.
The hospital serves thousands of patients daily and offers ultramodern healthcare services. NABL-accredited diagnostic labs, NABH-certified blood banks, and multi-specialty departments support a wide range of patient care and research. Students gain practical skills from daily clinical rounds, advanced diagnostics, and emergency casework, which prepare them to manage real-world medical challenges effectively.

Seats in College
Government Medical College, Surat, offers 250 MBBS seats each academic year. Admission depends entirely on NEET UG performance. The seat distribution includes 85% reserved under the Gujarat State Quota and 15% under the All India Quota.
The Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Courses (ACPUGMEC) and the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) handle state and national level counseling respectively. This transparent system ensures merit-based allocation and inclusive access to top-tier education.
