About the College

Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) opened in 2009 to meet the healthcare needs of Upper Assam. The Government of Assam established it under the Directorate of Medical Education. The college affiliates with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences. The National Medical Commission has approved its MBBS and postgraduate programs.

The campus spans more than 40 acres. It includes academic blocks, digital classrooms, well-equipped labs, skill centers, and hostels for boys and girls. JMCH follows the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) model. Students receive early clinical exposure and structured hands-on training. Moreover, the college promotes integrated learning and research-based education. Regular internal assessments, seminars, and outreach projects enhance the academic experience.

About the Hospital

The attached hospital functions as a 500-bed tertiary care facility. It serves people from Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, and Golaghat districts. The hospital includes departments such as medicine, surgery, pediatrics, OB-GYN, ENT, psychiatry, dermatology, orthopedics, radiology, anesthesia, and ophthalmology.

Students receive training through 24/7 emergency units, ICUs, PICUs, and NICUs. They also gain experience in trauma care, dialysis, modular OTs, and diagnostics. Telemedicine services extend healthcare to remote areas. Students rotate through OPDs, IPDs, and emergency units under faculty guidance. They also participate in government health drives like immunization and maternal care programs. These clinical opportunities build confidence and competence.

Principal’s Message

The Principal of JMCH focuses on building strong, ethical, and community-oriented doctors. The leadership encourages students to uphold discipline, integrity, and scientific reasoning. Faculty members mentor students in clinical excellence, research, and public service. The college promotes co-curricular participation, academic seminars, and field exposure. As a result, students leave with a clear sense of responsibility and purpose.

Seats in College

JMCH offers 125 MBBS seats every year. Admission happens through NEET UG. Of the total seats, 15% go to the All India Quota and 85% to the Assam state quota. The college also offers around 45 postgraduate seats in MD and MS programs. For state quota students, a compulsory service bond applies. This bond mandates government service after graduation, ensuring medical coverage in rural and underserved areas.

Mission and Vision

JMCH aims to provide quality education, foster ethical values, and ensure community-centered medical care. The mission includes clinical skill development, affordable healthcare delivery, and research-focused learning. The vision is to shape doctors who lead with compassion and serve with knowledge. The college works to address regional health needs while advancing professional excellence.

Fees Structure

JMCH follows the standard fee norms for government medical colleges in Assam. The annual tuition fee stands at ₹2,400. First-year students pay a total of ₹25,000 to ₹27,000. This includes hostel fees, admission charges, caution deposits, and other student-related expenses. Hostel facilities are available at subsidized rates. Additionally, scholarships and financial assistance support deserving students.
