About the College

Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute (KMCRI), formerly known as Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Hubballi, holds a legacy of excellence since its inception in 1957. Originally named Karnataka Medical College, it gained autonomous status in 1997 and adopted its present name in 2024. It is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, and recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC).

Spread across a sprawling 100-acre urban campus, KMCRI provides a robust academic and co-curricular environment. The campus lies near the Pune-Bangalore National Highway and includes smart classrooms, simulation labs, dissection halls, digital libraries, hostels, and sports complexes. The institute offers MBBS, BDS, B.Sc. Nursing, MD, MS, DM, and M.Ch programs, maintaining high standards in both education and infrastructure.

About the Hospital

KMCRI operates in tandem with KIMS Hospital, a major government tertiary care hospital in North Karnataka. The hospital handles a massive patient load and delivers 24/7 medical services to communities from Karnataka and nearby states. It includes over 1000 beds and 16 major operation theaters, supporting vast clinical training for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Specialties include Neurology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, and Urology. Super-specialty care units such as NICU, PICU, Trauma Center, and ICUs operate efficiently with modern tools like MRI, CT scan, dialysis units, and cardiac catheterization labs. This real-world exposure strengthens the student experience and supports quality public healthcare.

Under the leadership of Dr. S. F. Kammar, KMCRI emphasizes excellence in education, patient care, and research. Seats in College

KMCRI has a high intake capacity of 200 MBBS seats annually, ranking it among the larger medical colleges in Karnataka. Admission occurs through NEET-UG, with seat distribution managed by MCC (15% All India Quota) and KEA (85% State Quota).

At the postgraduate level, the college offers 103 MD/MS seats and also runs DM and M.Ch super-specialty courses in departments such as Cardiology, Urology, and Plastic Surgery. This multi-tier academic structure ensures career advancement for both undergraduates and specialists.
