MGIMS Sevagram Medical College

About The College

Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (MGIMS), located in Sevagram, Maharashtra, began in 1969 under the Kasturba Health Society. It holds distinction as India’s first rural medical college and maintains affiliation with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik. Recognized by the National Medical Commission, MGIMS integrates Gandhian principles into every part of its academic structure.

The college operates a 100-acre rural campus designed to promote simplicity, community living, and self-discipline. MGIMS follows a competency-based MBBS curriculum and incorporates social and preventive medicine at the core of its teaching. The institute admits 100 students every year through NEET-UG, placing emphasis on candidates with rural backgrounds or a commitment to rural service. The academic philosophy encourages students to practice medicine ethically, with empathy, and to engage in socially responsible clinical work.

About The Hospital

Kasturba Hospital serves as the teaching hospital for MGIMS and operates with more than 930 beds. It provides tertiary care services across internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, psychiatry, ENT, dermatology, and more.

The hospital includes ICUs, emergency care units, advanced diagnostics, blood bank, radiology, dialysis, and modular operation theaters. MGIMS uses Kasturba Hospital not just for standard clinical rotations but as a training ground for socially conscious healthcare. Students gain exposure to real-world patient scenarios, high rural patient load, and community-based healthcare programs from the early stages of their medical training.

Principal’s Message

At MGIMS, we train students to practice medicine with competence, compassion, and conscience. Our Gandhian roots guide students toward community health commitment and ethical conduct. Through integrated teaching, rural immersion, and academic discipline, we help future doctors develop clinical skills while keeping service to humanity at the forefront of their careers.

Seats In College

MGIMS admits 100 MBBS students every year through NEET UG. The admission policy gives preference to students from rural areas and those committed to serving in underserved regions. The institute also offers about 70 postgraduate seats annually in MD and MS programs across clinical and preclinical departments, filled through NEET PG.

Mission And Vision

MGIMS aims to prepare doctors who deliver compassionate care with strong ethical grounding. The mission promotes rural health service, value-based education, and medical training that encourages simplicity, empathy, and lifelong learning. The institution stands firm on Gandhian values—truth, non-violence, and selfless service—as essential components of healthcare delivery and education.

Fees Structure

The MBBS tuition fee at MGIMS remains below ₹1 lakh per year, supported by government aid and trust funding. The college also charges hostel, mess, and deposit fees, but the overall cost remains accessible for most students. Postgraduate course fees follow a subsidized structure, especially for candidates agreeing to serve in rural health sectors. MGIMS focuses on affordability, equity, and service-oriented education, staying true to its mission of producing socially responsible doctors.
