About the college

Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC), located in Baridih, Jamshedpur, is India’s first public-private partnership medical college. Established in 2020 by Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and Tata Steel under a consortium agreement, MTMC represents a unique collaboration between two premier institutions. It functions under MAHE—recognized as an Institution of Eminence—and holds National Medical Commission approval.

The 20-acre campus includes digital classrooms, simulation labs, clinical skill centers, departmental museums, and a central e-library. The college offers 150 MBBS seats per year and adopts the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum. Students benefit from early patient exposure, interactive small-group sessions, and integrated teaching approaches. Faculty use case-based learning, structured clinical training, and objective assessment tools to shape future-ready medical professionals.

About the hospital

Tata Main Hospital serves as the teaching hospital and supports MTMC with around 983 beds. It covers all core specialties, including General Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, ENT, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, and Radiology. Students participate in outpatient clinics, inpatient rounds, emergency interventions, and operating room observerships. With over 16.5 lakh outpatient visits and 60,000 admissions annually, the hospital offers real-world clinical exposure at a high volume.

Clinical rounds, patient-centered teaching, and hands-on procedural training prepare students for evidence-based care. The hospital’s urban and industrial patient population adds to the breadth of clinical experiences available.

Principal’s message

The principal envisions training compassionate, competent, and community-conscious physicians. The academic environment encourages ethical medical practice, self-reflection, and service. Faculty provide personalized mentorship, continuous evaluation, and skill-based learning to support each student’s growth. The college values professionalism, social accountability, and a lifelong commitment to learning.

Seats in college

Manipal Tata Medical College offers 150 MBBS seats annually. Admissions take place through NEET UG, filled via Jharkhand state quota and the Deemed University (All India) counseling process. The seat allocation follows consortium terms, primarily focused on the management quota in line with MAHE’s deemed university framework.

Mission and vision

The mission of MTMC includes preparing medical graduates who integrate scientific knowledge with ethical care. The institution promotes community-responsive healthcare, evidence-based clinical practice, and professional excellence. Its vision centers on leadership in medical education, regional health upliftment, and global standards of care through innovative training and partnerships.

Fees structure

The annual tuition fee for MBBS students under the management/deemed university quota is ₹16,19,000. Hostel charges, mess fees, and other university-related expenses apply separately. The college ensures transparency in financial matters and adheres to MAHE and regulatory guidelines during the admission and counseling process.
