About the College

Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram, established in 1951, stands as the first and oldest medical college in Kerala. Inaugurated by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, the college carries a legacy of over seven decades in healthcare education. Located in Mulagunnathukavu and spread over 250 acres, it provides a peaceful, academically rich environment. The college operates under the affiliation of Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), which also started from the same campus. As a trusted hub for advanced medical education, GMCT continues to lead as a referral center for three districts in Kerala and neighboring regions of Tamil Nadu.

About the Hospital

The teaching hospital attached to GMCT ranks among the largest in South Kerala. It houses more than 1,950 beds and manages a yearly outpatient volume exceeding 7.5 million. Annually, nearly 80,000 patients receive inpatient care. The hospital offers emergency and trauma services round-the-clock, multiple operating theatres, cutting-edge diagnostics, and specialty units for disciplines such as cardiology, oncology, neurology, and nephrology. Students at GMCT benefit from hands-on experience across diverse clinical departments, strengthening their skills with real-time medical exposure.

Seats in College

Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram admits 250 students annually for its MBBS program, the highest intake in Kerala. Admissions take place through NEET UG counseling. For postgraduate aspirants, the college offers 249 MD/MS seats across 22 specialties. It also conducts DM and M.Ch super-specialty courses, offering comprehensive progression from undergraduate to advanced clinical training.
