About the College
Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), situated on NH-206 in Shivamogga, Karnataka, has operated as a government medical college since its inception in 2007. Affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru, and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC), SIMS upholds rigorous standards for medical education and training.
The college spreads over 25 acres and features a well-planned campus that includes smart classrooms, department labs, a digital library, museums, and an auditorium. SIMS offers academic programs such as MBBS, BDS, B.Sc. Nursing, and MD/MS postgraduate degrees. About the Hospital
SIMS functions in close collaboration with Government McGann Hospital, a tertiary healthcare center with over 950 beds, including around 65 ICU beds. This hospital plays a vital role in providing hands-on clinical experience across all specialties, making it an essential pillar of student training.
It houses 15 operation theaters and offers full-time emergency services, trauma care, a blood bank, and an eye bank. Students get exposure to departments such as General Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology. This wide clinical spectrum allows learners to develop practical skills alongside theoretical knowledge, ensuring holistic medical education.
