About the College

Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS) offers MBBS education on the Tadong campus of Sikkim Manipal University in Gangtok. The college began in 2001 through a public–private partnership between the Government of Sikkim and Manipal Education & Medical Group. It became the first of its kind in the region. The 25–34-acre hillside campus features smart classrooms, clinical skill labs, simulation centers, and departmental museums. In addition, the campus includes a 750-seat auditorium and a digital library with over 18,000 books and 143 journals.

SMIMS follows the Competency-Based Medical Education curriculum. It emphasizes early patient interaction, practical learning, and regular assessments. From the first year, students engage in case-based discussions to build strong clinical foundations. This model ensures readiness for real-world healthcare settings.

About the Hospital

The Central Referral Hospital on campus has around 500 beds. It serves as a major tertiary care facility for the region. The hospital includes departments such as Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, OBGYN, Orthopedics, ENT, Radiology, Pathology, and Emergency Medicine.

Students gain clinical experience through daily rounds, outpatient clinics, diagnostic labs, and operating theaters. They also work in ICUs and attend to real-time emergencies. This exposure helps them apply classroom knowledge to patient care. Moreover, it builds confidence in clinical decision-making.

Principal’s Message

The principal focuses on creating competent, ethical, and compassionate doctors. Faculty provide mentorship, structured training, and regular feedback. Students receive support in both academics and research.

The leadership encourages lifelong learning and community involvement. It also promotes professionalism and responsible practice. As a result, graduates leave SMIMS ready to serve with integrity.

Seats in College

SMIMS offers 150 MBBS seats every year. The seat distribution includes 80 seats for Sikkim-domicile students. Among these, the top 50 often qualify for full tuition waivers.

In addition, the college allocates 32 seats for the All-India quota, 32 for North-East states, and 5 for the management quota. Admissions take place through NEET-UG counseling, both at the national and state levels.

Mission and Vision

SMIMS aims to train doctors who combine knowledge with empathy and ethics. The mission focuses on community service, clinical excellence, and research-based education. It also encourages continuous learning.

The college envisions becoming a leader in healthcare innovation and medical training. It strives to make a lasting impact across Northeast India and beyond.

Fees Structure

The annual tuition fee under the private (management) quota stands at ₹32,00,000. Students pay this in scheduled installments.

The college publishes full fee details during counseling. It also ensures clear communication on payment options. This transparency supports informed financial planning for all applicants.
