About the College

Sri Jagannath Medical College & Hospital (SJMCH) in Puri, Odisha, began its academic journey in 2021 as the state’s eighth government medical college. The campus spans 25.6 acres in the Samangara area, about 7 km from the iconic Jagannath Temple and 28 km from the UNESCO-listed Konark Sun Temple. It functions under the Odisha University of Health Sciences—formerly Utkal University—and holds recognition from the National Medical Commission. The facilities include a modern academic block, administrative offices, an auditorium, faculty and staff quarters, and separate hostels for male and female students. Students also enjoy a cafeteria, gymnasium, playground, and recreational spaces that create a balanced learning environment.

About the Hospital

The teaching hospital operates from the former District Headquarters Hospital on a 12-acre site in central Puri. An additional 8-acre expansion is under construction and expected to open in 2024. The hospital has about 380–390 beds and offers services like ICU, ICCU, SNCU, and specialized OPDs. These OPDs cater to over 1,200 patients daily and include clinics for immunization, anti-rabies care, well-baby checkups, child guidance, rehabilitation, non-communicable diseases, and opioid substitute therapy. This diverse setup ensures students gain extensive clinical exposure.
