About the College
Sri Manakula Vinayagar Medical College & Hospital (SMVMCH) is located in Kalitheerthal Kuppam, Madagadipet, Pondicherry. The college started its MBBS program in 2006 under the vision of Shri N. Kesavan, founder of Shri Manakula Vinayagar Educational Trust. The institution affiliates with Pondicherry University and holds recognition from the National Medical Commission.
The campus spans over 225 acres and features advanced infrastructure. Facilities include smart classrooms, seminar rooms, a 300-seat examination hall, a large auditorium, and departmental museums. It also includes simulation centers, clinical skill labs, and a digital library. SMVMCH follows the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) model. This curriculum ensures early clinical exposure, integrated learning, and continuous formative assessments. Faculty conduct hands-on labs, small-group discussions, and clinical case reviews throughout the year.
About the Hospital
The college runs a modern tertiary care teaching hospital with approximately 900 to 1,180 beds and 100 to 150 ICU beds. It covers a wide range of specialties such as General Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Orthopedics, ENT, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Pathology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine, and Physiotherapy.
Students rotate through OPDs, wards, operating rooms, emergency units, and diagnostic labs each day. Supervised by experienced faculty, these rotations ensure comprehensive clinical training. The hospital receives a high volume of patients from urban and rural regions, providing rich exposure to varied medical cases and treatment protocols.
