About BAMS
Bachelors of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is an Ayurveda traditional healing art in India. BAMS course provides the complete knowledge about ‘Ashtanga Ayurveda’ along with scientific advances in modern medicine along with extensive practical training. Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) is the responsible body for admission to Ayurveda education at undergraduate as well as postgraduate level and for practice Ayurvedic medicine in India.
Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of medicine and traces its roots to Vedic times. It is based on the curative properties of herbs and its medicines are known for the natural elements that they contain.
Considered as an alternative method of treatment, the Ayurveda medicine system not only cures and prevents an ailment but also reduces the frequency with which diseases enter a human body. It utilises the self-healing system of the body.
World Health Organisation has also provided a worldwide forum for promoting traditional medicine systems such as Ayurveda. Therefore, Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) as a course has opened up many promising opportunities for students.
Eligibility Criteria for BAMS
- To pursue BAMS course in Indian colleges/ universities, aspirants should clear Class XII in Science stream with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) subjects.
- In most cases, the minimum percentage that students require in Class XII to be eligible for BAMS course admissions is 50% to 60%. However, the minimum percentage criteria changes depending on a college/ university policy.
- Some universities may also have minimum age bar as their BAMS eligibility criteria.
Candidates who fulfil the above eligibility criteria have to appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and qualify it. Admission to BAMS course is through a centralised counselling based on the NEET merit list.
BAMS Admission Process
- BAMS admissions in Indiaare done on the basis of entrance exams.
- Candidates have to apply for the entrance exam i.e., NEET-UG and appear in it.
- After the results are out, the conducting authority of the examinations prepares a merit list, basis which counselling process is conducted.
- Candidates who make it in the counselling process are allocated seats for BAMS course at different colleges.
Course Curriculum for BAMS
BAMS is a 5 year and 6-month long bachelor degree course. The course duration includes 4.5 years of academic sessions and 1 year of internship. The 4.5 years of academic sessions are divided into three professional courses of 1.5 years each.
