Government Medical College, Bhavnagar, began its academic journey in 1995 with just 50 undergraduate seats. Since then, it has grown into one of Gujarat’s most respected medical institutions. The college is affiliated with Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University and holds recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC).

About the Hospital

Sir Takhtsinhji Hospital, popularly known as Sir T Hospital, functions as the teaching hospital for GMC Bhavnagar. This hospital has served the region since 1933 and now operates with over 1,030 beds. It plays a vital role in the clinical education of MBBS students.

The hospital offers 24/7 emergency care, specialty departments, and comprehensive diagnostics. On average, more than 1,800 patients visit the outpatient department each day. Because of this high patient flow, students regularly interact with a wide range of medical cases. They gain invaluable experience in real-time diagnosis, procedures, and patient communication under expert supervision.

Seats in College

Government Medical College, Bhavnagar, offers 200 MBBS seats every academic year. This number increased from 150 to 200 in 2019. Admission depends on NEET UG merit. Of the total seats, 85% belong to the Gujarat State Quota, while 15% fall under the All India Quota.

The Admission Committee for Professional Undergraduate Medical Courses (ACPUGMEC) manages all seat allocation and counseling procedures in a fair and transparent manner.
