Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Bhagalpur, started offering medical education in 1971. The Government of Bihar created this institution to address the growing demand for healthcare professionals in eastern Bihar. Situated in Bhagalpur city, the college affiliates with Bihar University of Health Sciences and holds recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC), which replaced the Medical Council of India.
JNMC follows the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum to ensure students receive early clinical exposure along with theoretical learning. Moreover, the campus includes modern lecture halls, dissection rooms, digital laboratories, seminar rooms, and a central library with access to e-resources. About the Hospital
The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital supports medical education while also serving as a vital healthcare facility in Bhagalpur and surrounding districts. It manages over 600 inpatient beds across various departments like general medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, orthopedics, gynecology, dermatology, psychiatry, ENT, and ophthalmology.
In addition to these specialties, the hospital provides ICUs, NICUs, emergency wards, diagnostic labs, operating theaters, and a functional blood bank. Since the hospital experiences a high patient inflow every day, students get real-time clinical exposure under faculty supervision. Seats in College
The college admits 150 students into its MBBS program each academic year. Admission takes place through the NEET-UG exam conducted nationwide. Additionally, the college observes reservation policies issued by the Government of Bihar, which include quotas for EWS, SC, ST, OBC, EBC, and PwD categories.
