Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS), established in 2006, stands as a prominent autonomous medical college under the Government of Karnataka. It is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore, and holds recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC). Located in the historical city of Belagavi, BIMS offers MBBS, MD, MS, and select super-specialty (DM) programs. The academic complex sits on a well-developed campus that also includes hostel facilities and residential quarters for faculty and staff. The institution combines quality education with modern infrastructure, enabling students to engage in academic rigor and practical learning from their first year onward.

About the Hospital

BIMS is attached to the well-established Civil Hospital, one of Belagavi’s most trusted healthcare institutions. The hospital features over 1,000 beds and provides a wide spectrum of healthcare services including general medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics, and specialized clinics. This facility ensures continuous clinical exposure for students throughout their training. Fully functional operation theatres, ICUs, diagnostic labs, and emergency departments support hands-on learning. A steady stream of patients from urban and rural areas provides students the opportunity to observe and treat a variety of clinical conditions under expert supervision.

Seats in College

BIMS offers 150 MBBS seats annually. Admission is based solely on NEET UG merit. In postgraduate education, the college provides approximately 18 seats for MS courses and 16 for MD programs across various departments. Select super-specialty DM seats are also available, though the intake remains limited. The distribution follows government reservation policies, ensuring access to students from diverse backgrounds.

The annual MBBS tuition fee at BIMS under the government quota is about ₹65,100. Hostel charges and living expenses are not included in this figure. For postgraduate MD/MS programs, the total fee stands close to ₹3.56 Lakhs. Students pursuing MBBS receive a stipend of ₹30,000 per month during their one-year internship. PG students receive a tiered monthly stipend—₹30,000 in the first year, ₹35,000 in the second, and ₹40,000 in the final year. These benefits ensure financial support while students focus on clinical learning and service.
