About the College

Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College & Research Institute (SABVMC&RI), located in Shivajinagar, Bengaluru, began in 2019 and functions as a government medical college. Previously named Bowring & Lady Curzon Medical College, it operates under the affiliation of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) and holds approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC).

The 18-acre campus, located in central Bengaluru, features cutting-edge academic and research facilities. It houses spacious lecture halls, digital labs, a comprehensive central library, and departmental museums. SABVMC&RI offers undergraduate MBBS and several postgraduate MD/MS courses. It combines modern learning methods with strong academic mentorship, building a foundation for future-ready medical professionals.

About the Hospital

SABVMC&RI uses Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospitals (BLCH) as its primary teaching hospital. Established in 1868, BLCH is a heritage institution that continues to deliver modern medical care. With over 686 beds, it provides a wide range of medical services and practical learning opportunities for students.

The hospital includes departments such as Pediatrics, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, Neurology, and Cardiology. Equipped with emergency services, ICU, diagnostic labs, and specialty clinics, the hospital delivers high-volume patient exposure and hands-on training. Students gain clinical skills and real-world insight through daily hospital postings and rotations.

Seats in College

The MBBS program at SABVMC&RI offers 150 seats every year. NEET-UG scores determine admission. Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) manages 85% of the seats under the state quota, while the remaining 15% fall under the All India Quota, filled through MCC counseling.

The college also runs MD and MS programs in various disciplines. Postgraduate intake includes around 27 seats annually across clinical and non-clinical specialties.
