Government Medical College Ernakulam, once known as Cochin Medical College, has emerged as a leading public medical institution in Kerala. Founded in 1999 by the Co-operative Academy of Professional Education, it transitioned into a fully government-owned college on December 11, 2013. The campus covers 60 acres in Kalamassery, Kochi, and holds affiliation with the Kerala University of Health Sciences. Approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI), the college focuses on academic excellence, innovation in research, and quality healthcare delivery. About the Hospital
The Government Medical College Hospital, Ernakulam, is a 700-bedded multi-specialty facility that complements the medical college with advanced clinical training. It offers complete diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services. Emergency and trauma care operate 24/7, alongside specialized ICUs including surgical, medical, neonatal, and pediatric units. Students train with modern imaging tools such as MRI, CT scans, and ultrasound, along with access to X-ray, laboratory diagnostics, blood bank services, and a fully functional pharmacy.
