About the college

Smt. N.H.L. Municipal Medical College (NHLMMC) in Ahmedabad began its journey in 1963 under the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Notably, AMC became one of the first municipal bodies in India to establish a medical college. NHLMMC maintains affiliation with Gujarat University and holds recognition from the National Medical Commission. Over the years, the college has increased its MBBS intake from 75 to 250 students, clearly showing consistent academic growth.

Moreover, the college delivers strong academic training through modern infrastructure. It features well-equipped lecture halls, high-tech laboratories, and an extensive library. Additionally, students benefit from a disciplined academic environment supported by dedicated faculty. Because of this well-rounded approach, NHLMMC continues to stand out as a top medical institution in Gujarat.

About the hospital

The college partners with major teaching hospitals operated by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. Chief among them is the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (SVPIMSR), which offers nearly 1600 beds. This facility includes 1278 general beds, 190 ICU beds, and 80 emergency beds. It also houses 32 operating theatres and a rooftop helipad.

Furthermore, students train at Smt. Shardaben (S.C.L.) General Hospital and Shri C.H. Nagri Eye Hospital. These hospitals offer multispecialty services and treat a vast patient base, giving students vital clinical experience. As a result, MBBS candidates receive hands-on training in diverse departments and complex cases.

Principal’s message

Dr. Pankaj R. Patel, Dean of NHLMMC, believes in training doctors who also become socially responsible citizens. He focuses on developing empathy in students while emphasizing academic excellence. In addition, he encourages a culture of medical research and patient-first care, ensuring that graduates are not only skilled but also compassionate.

NHLMMC admits 250 MBBS students annually. The college expanded this capacity in 2016. Admission takes place through the NEET UG exam. While 85% of the seats fall under the Gujarat State Quota, the remaining 15% are filled through All India Quota counseling conducted by MCC.

Mission and vision

The vision of NHLMMC states: “Extraordinary care – Healthier lives.” The mission supports this by preparing healthcare professionals who commit to delivering high-quality care. Additionally, the college promotes teamwork, research, and community health awareness. With this mindset, NHLMMC strives to shape the future of public health in India.
